Joanna Wills, BA (Contemporary Dance, Kinesiology)
Joanna holds a Bachelor of Arts in Dance from the University of Calgary where she majored in Contemporary. During her four year study, she transferred for a semester to Vancouver to train with the dance faculty at Simon Fraser University. She has had many opportunities to work under renowned teachers and choreographers hailing from across Canada and abroad - including Poland, Germany, France, Brazil, and Cuba. She has trained and performed both nationally and internationally – including participating in a three week intensive study in Cuba, training in traditional Afro-Cuban dance styles with local experts.
Currently Joanna is living in Vancouver, British Columbia, where she is the owner and teacher of Unhinge Dance. Along with teaching regular classes at her studio, Joanna teaches Master Classes in Greater Vancouver as well as on Vancouver Island. She also leads workshops on choreography and developing skills for dance teachers, particularly around the effective use of language and the impact it holds in and outside of dance class.
In support of her belief in life-long learning and development, Joanna bases all her classes on promoting strong, fundamental technique while encouraging enjoyment, creativity and self-expression. She hopes to continue to share her knowledge with dance students and teachers alike to promote all forms of dance in a healthy, supportive and positive environment.
